The corporation was legally formed on December 27, 1973.
In 1977 we began developing the Electroil Load Management product line which applies to areas in which the local power company will give reduced rates for electric heating that can be interrupted during the high peaking hours. During these interrupted hours, the backup heating system will heat the home. This was the introduction of Dual Fuel or Dual Heating. The dual furnace was in production in 1978. A modified boiler and the Peak Interrupters were developed in 1979. Electro-Mates were first introduced in 1980. The Air Handler, a new boiler, and custom duct heater systems were all developed in 1981. In between all these products, numerous controls for use by the power companies were developed.
Also in May 1977 we moved to our present location and in 1979 we built the warehouse and two storage buildings. In 1986, 1999, and 2001 we added FabCon additions to our facilities.
As our experience grew in the Upper Midwest we developed a full line of load interrupt relay and submetering controls called Peak Interrupters. This family of products has been used by over 200 utilities across the nation.
In 1991 we introduced a microprocessor product family under the Electro-Tech name. This includes programmable seasonal time clocks, electronic submetering, remote metering, commercial demand controllers, wireless control transceivers, etc. In 1995 this was extended to a smart heat pump controller called WarmFlo™.
Throughout the history of load management applications, the proper interrupt backup heat and comfort of heat pumps was always an issue. Through the years various relay based interfaced controls were developed primarily to add installation ease and standardization for load management control. As a result we became a third party knowledge base and interface control supplier for many power company customer service departments and dealers/contractors. Realizing the need to increase air source heat pump comfort and more effectively integrate our Electro-Mate plenum heater with the classical dual fuel heat pump, the WarmFlo™ smart heat pump controller as a new product opens up a new future for the original Electro-Mate and for electric utilities interested in selling more power. WarmFlo™ is the most versatile and universal heat pump controller available and is configured for any heat pump make, age, type or HP/gas furnace configuration. It is truly a third party added value controller.
In addition, we have designed and manufactured a variety of specialized controls for both the agriculture and the electric utility industries. In 1996, in a joint venture with Wright-Hennepin Electric of Rockford, we developed a Mini-Boiler to be used in the radiant floor heat application.
In 1999 the GenConnect series of generator transfer switches was developed and in 2000 we developed a Make-Up Air Heater for new home ventilation code requirements.
On March 27, 2000, after 27 years as CEO, Bill appointed Jon Smith as General Manager reporting to the Board of Directors. Bill continues working in the area of developing new products.
With the expansion of radiant hydronic heat, Electro's boiler line has surpassed sales of any of our other products. With this dramatic increase in demand, Electro has focused on meeting the radiant hydronic boiler and controlling needs of the heating industry. During the 2002-2004 years we developed the TS Series Electro-Boiler and control line. This includes digital thermostats, redesigned boiler, and many variations of zone/temperature controls.
During the high gas prices of Winter 2004, the corporation came full circle back to one of our first products (Electroil Furnace). Taking the concept of true dual energy combination (gas/electric), the Dual Energy Furnace was introduced on a limited basis.
